This documentary looks at the Governor of Mississippi’s approval of House Bill 1523,
the “Protecting freedom of conscience from government discrimination act.” The law
allows people to cite religion as cause to deny or refuse services to LGBTQ persons. The
documentary follows the reaction of the Mississippi Gulf Coast; including the first ever
gay rights demonstrations on the coast, and a show of support against the law from local
businesses in the form of signs reading “All Are Welcome Here.” This was a
collaborative student crewed project that emphasized citizenship and gave the students a
voice when they felt silenced by political injustice.
